Dr. Jon Rickman, Vice President for Information Systems, presented a paper entitled, "Notebook Universities Do Not Have to be Expensive" at the ACM SIGUCCS 2006 fall conference in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Nov. 4-9. The theme of the conference was "Expanding the Boundaries." ACM SIGUCCS stands for Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on University and College Computing Services.

Joining Rickman were co-authors Kim Todd and Tabatha Verbick, both Client Computing User Consultants in the Office of Information Systems and 2006 Culture of Quality funding recipients.

Todd and Verbick presented a second paper with Owens Library Reference Specialist Pat Wyatt entitled, "Oh, My Aching Laptop: Expanding the Boundaries of Campus Computing Ergonomics." Wyatt is also a 2006 Culture of Quality funding recipient.

Both papers were published in the conference proceedings and are available online at the ACM Portal to Computing Literature.

Wyatt accepted two Communication Awards at the conference for online material produced by Wyatt and her Owens Library colleagues. Todd and Verbick took on leadership roles at the conference by volunteering to be SIGUCCS Mentors to new conference attendees. Todd was also a Session Chair at the conference.
