Over 126 students participated in the Information System's Peer Educator in Residence for Technology (PERT) sponsored HALO 2 LAN Party, Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, from 7 to 11 p.m. in The Station.
Xbox LAN pods were set up in all three of The Station's meeting rooms. Each of the three pods linked four Xboxes, which in turn were connected to projection screens. The set-up allowed 16 gamers to use each pod simultaneously. Altogether there were 12 Xboxes and 12 projection screens.
It is against Northwest computing policies for students to use the University's computer network to interconnect Xboxes or gaming software. Consequently, the PERTs decided to hold a semi-annual HALO 2 LAN Party to give gamers a way to enjoy thier gaming pursuits without being in violation of policy. The PERT computer gaming party is held twice an academic year, once in the fall and once in the spring.
Doorprizes were awarded at 2006 fall event from both local and campus business such as Hyvee, Aramark, Carson's Sports Grille, several residence hall councils and RHA. The winning gamer walked away with a new Xbox 360. Student Phillip Dawson was the Fall 2006 winner.
The Fall 2006 HALO 2 LAN Party was organized by PERTS: Daman Kapoor, Chris Grandfield, Meredith Manring, Erin Jewell, Rebecca Rainford and Beyza Aydar.
