The wireless pilot program will allow students and faculty greater mobility.
--Dr. Jon Rickman, VP of Information Systems |
In 1997, John Hopkins
University was one of the first academic institutions in
the nation to implement a wireless Lan pilot program. Today,
Northwest Missouri State University is poised to follow
in the footsteps of its fellow wireless pioneer by launching
a similar pilot program. However, unlike the John Hopkins
pilot, which began with only 40 students, the Northwest
pilot will be broader in scale.
Campus buildings to have
the wireless capability will be the Student Union, Owens
Library, the residential life suites, and a lab in Colden
Hall, which houses the Computer Science/Information Systems
Department.
Currently, the Vice-President
of Information Systems and key staff are investigating the
best wireless solutions for these buildings.
Note: More information
will be added as the project proceeds and information is
known.
