Student Nathan Welch,
who is graduating with his B.S. in Interactive Digital Media
in May 2004, has won the 2004 Take the Cover Art Challenge
Contest, which was sponsored by the Information Systems
Department in cooperation with the Office of University
Relations and the Fine Arts Department.
The cover art contest
is designed to draw attention to the User's Guide, which
provides students will important information about campus
computing resources, guidelines and policies, the latter
of which are so important to maintaining a secure and stable
network.
Nathan's cover was selected
from several student entries and will be used for the front
cover of the 2004 Electronic Campus User's Guide,
which has a distribution of approximately 1700 and is given
free-of-charge to all in-coming Freshman, select faculty
and administrative staff with approximatley 50 of the User's
Guide being placed on sale in the Bearcat Bookstore.
The submissions were critiqued
and voted on by a panel of judges, which included representatives
from the Fine Arts Department, the Information Systems Department
and the Office of University Relations.
The judges were: Dr. Craig
Warner, Association Professor of Art in the Fine Arts Department,
Dennis Esser, Director of Public Relations/Web Services
in the Office of University Relations, Kim Todd, Client
Computing User Consultant with Information Systems and the
Assistant Director of the Jean Jenning Bartik Computing
Museum, and Tabatha Verbick, Client Computing User Consultant
with Information Systems.
Welch, who was the recipient
of this year's Student Employment Outstanding Commitment
to Quality of Work award during National Student
Employment Week, is a Northwest Student Tele-counselor,
the secretary for the International Fraternity Council and
a member of the Board of Directors of Team Leadership. Among
his many other honors in 2004, Welch received first place
for the Best Visual Design and Layout category at
the Student Web Page Contest sponsored by the Consortium
for Computing in Small Colleges:Central Plains Region
at Central Missouri State University.
As the winner of the cover
art contest, Welch will have his name listed in the Acknowledgements
section of the User's Guide and will receive a 128 USB Pen
(Flash) Drive [$40 value], along with two finished copies
of the User's Guide for his portfolio.
