IT Public Resources

The Information Technology (IT) department provides a wide array of public technology resources within B.D. Owens Library to students, faculty and staff.  The  IT department's Client Computing (CC) Office is located on the first-floor of Owens Library. The CC User Consultants manage this office and the IT department's student staff known as Technology Supports Assistants (TSAs).  The TSA Help Desk is located on the first-floor of Owens Library.  Both the User Consultants and TSAs provide technology services to faculty, staff, and students.

Within Owens Library, the IT department provides secure wired and wireless connectivity to faculty, staff and students.  Campus visitors may also connect to the wired network and a Guest wirless connection is also available.  The IT department provides the following to students, faculty and staff within Owens Library:  public PCs and dual-boot Macs, group work stations with 52-inch monitors and wired connectivity for 7 notebook computers,  color scanners, DVD recorders, USB ports and printing equipment.

IT-provided desktop computers within Owens Library currently have Windows 7 operating systems and Microsoft Office 2013 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, Visio, Outlook). The PCs also have Microsoft Forefront Client Security, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome.  Dual-boot Macs and PCs all have the Adobe Master Collection.

Personally provided transparencies are not allowed in the laser printers, unless the transparencies are in a sealed box that is clearly labeled for use with laser printers. Inkjet transparencies and transparency for copy machines are not allowed in the laser printers and will, in fact, damage the laser printers. All special paper must be compatible with laser printing. Providing your own laser paper for printing does not change the cost of printing.

IT department-provided public laser printers are located on the first and second floors of the library . A computer and printer for special printing is located near the TSA desk on the first-floor of the library.

Printing charges to the networked, black-and-white and color laser printers are automatically billed to one's personal student, faculty or staff account via an electronic billing system. If you do not have a university username and password, you will not be able to print to a university networked printer. Billing for printing is done by Northwest's Bursar's Office and nonpayment of charges will result in services being discontinued.
