Education Expo 2.0

Rescheduled due to inclement weather

New Date: Friday, March 30, 2018

Education Expo is a career fair designed to connect qualified teacher applicants with prospective employers. New and alumni teacher candidates are encouraged to present their resumes, introduce themselves and discuss current/potential openings with attending representatives.

Education Expo also gives younger Northwest students a chance to network, learn more about the teaching profession and explore career paths offered by the attending employers.

Schools please register by March 23, 2018 to be included in marketing materials.

What is Education Expo and how will it benefit my organization?

Participating in Education Expo is a great way to get your district’s name and brand shared across campus. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet prospective students, promote your district, connect and network with faculty, and build relationships throughout Northwest. Through attending this event, students begin to develop an awareness of your district, which may lead them to apply for full-time or student teaching opportunities in the future.

How much does Education Expo cost?

The event is free to attend.

How do I register for Education Expo?

How do I register for Next Day Interviews and On-Campus Recruiting?

Interview space is available, contact Renee Riedel to make arrangements.

REMINDER: Post your career and internship opportunities to Hire A Bearcat, our online recruiting system. The postings will enable students to research and prepare for the event.

Hire A Bearcat is part of Symplicity Corporation and is the only job listing service that provides employers the ability to directly interact with Northwest Missouri State University students and alumni.

Day of the event

Upon arrival, verify your participation by checking in at the Career Services table located at the main entrance of the arena. You will be directed to your table with a handout containing a list of attending districts, a table map showing the layout of the event, and a form to submit any additional vacancies.

Candidates / Students

Why participate, what’s in it for me? The benefits of attending Education Expo:

  • Learn about a district’s culture, training programs, job expectations, and potential career tracks directly from visiting recruiters
  • Meet contacts and network with recruiters within the education industry while on campus
  • Familiarize yourself with the district’s application and interview process
  • Increase your chance of securing interviews for student teaching or job offers

How do I sign-up?

There is no pre-registration process for the event. Upon arrival candidates will be asked to check-in and create a name tag.

What time is the event?

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 10:30 a.m. Candidates may come and go as their schedules allow but we strongly encourage all attendees to arrive as early as possible.

What if there are no employers for my major/certification?

Some school districts may not know all of their vacancies prior to the event. Attending Education Expo allows potential candidates to find additional opportunities that were not advertised in advance.

How do I prepare?

  1. Review the list of attending districts and prioritize your list in order of interest/desirability
  2. Research districts:
    • Visit websites and review mission statements, principal newsletters, and event PTA minutes
    • What curriculum is being used?
    • What are the demographics of the district?
    • What are some of the district’s goals?
    • Where is the district located? How many employees?
    • What career opportunities are available?
  3. Consider the types of general interview questions that will potentially be asked and prepare answers
  4. Create a list of questions (at least three) to ask the employer

Day of the event

Upon arrival, check-in at the Career Services table located at the main entrance of the arena. You will be directed to create a name tag and will receive a handout containing a list of attending districts, along with a table map showing the layout of the event.

Prior to exiting the arena we ask that you complete an online evaluation about your experience at the event. Your feedback helps us to improve this event for future students and districts. We appreciate your comments.
