Checking Out the Details

We have certain requirements and details associated with certain majors at our school, so ask questions about things like:

  • Prerequisites?
  • Certain GPA required?
  • Limited numbers within a major?
  • How long to complete a major?
  • Other requirements (i.e. practicum, field study, etc.)

Don't Get Overwhelmed!

  • As you check out all the details when it comes to certain majors, know that you’re not alone.
  • Ask questions when talking with your advisor and other trusted consultants.
  • Explore the “what ifs” now so you know what to expect down the road.

Taking Action

The Basics

  • Reassess your career related interests, skills, and values. Re-visit the TypeFocus program.
  • Develop more knowledge about the career options you are considering.  Collect information in regards to the employment outlook, degree/additional education requirements, work settings, and work experience needed.
  • Create your resume.
  • Try out your career options through an internship.

Get Ahead

  • Develop job related skills through academic coursework (computer, accounting, foreign language, etc.).
  • Devote extra attention to your academic success.
  • Attend Career Services events (Workshops, “Mock” Interview Day, Career Day, and/or Education Expo) to learn about internships, graduate schools, full-time employment and other career related topics.
  • Participate in a domestic or international student exchange program or study abroad.
  • Conduct informational interviews with professionals in different fields to learn about career options. 
  • Investigate post-graduate internships to gain experience while conducting your job search for full-time employment.

Assess Focus/Confirm Implement
