The sixth anniversary of the St. Louis Alumni and Friends Chapter in May featured a Board of Regents member, drawings for golf and St. Louis Cardinals games, and Northwest trivia. Also during 2013-14, the St. Louis Alumni and Friends Chapter played bocce ball in August, visited Wine Country Gardens in October, attended a Northwest-Lindenwood basketball game in November, gathered for a watch party for the NCAA Division II National Championship football game in December, supported the Championship Trophy Tour in February, bowled in March and hosted a St. Louis Cardinals-Pittsburgh Pirates watch party in April. In July, the chapter attended a River City Rascals-Windy City ThunderBolts baseball game, and in August it hosted a bike ride on the Katy Trail.
The group invites all St. Louis area alumni to join them for fall activities, including a September winery event, the Alumni Awards banquet and family weekend in Maryville Sept. 19-21, the Northwest-Lindenwood football game Oct. 11 and Northwest Homecoming in Maryville Oct. 18.
Elected officers for the coming year are Aaron Bunch ’04, and Susan Johnson Hockensmith ’72, co-presidents; Barbara Bosch Alexander ’82, ’86, secretary; Valerie Byrn ’01, social chair; and Anne Alexander Gross ’90, networking and membership chair.

The St. Louis Chapter gathered in October for its annual winery social at the Wine Country Gardens in Defiance. Members new to the area, Patricia Baker Haynes ’96, Dave Cooper ’81 and Deb Cooper ’81, were welcomed to their first alumni gathering. The group discussed ways to have a presence at next year’s Oct. 11 Bearcat football game versus Lindenwood University, to be played in the St. Louis area. The chapter members also enjoyed a Bearcat football watch party as well as a holiday event. The fifth anniversary of the St. Louis Chapter featured a visit by Joe Bosse ’72 of the University’s Board of Regents as well as drawings for golf and St. Louis Cardinals tickets, Northwest trivia and the introduction of the Bearcat Bomb, the group’s new signature drink (alcoholic or nonalcoholic). In addition, chapter members gathered in April for the St. Louis Cardinals opening day watch party and in August for an afternoon of bocce ball. All St. Louis area alumni and friends are invited to join in the fall activities, including the Oct. 5 winery get-together and the Oct. 19 Northwest vs. Pitt State football game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. The St. Louis Chapter celebrated its fourth anniversary with a May social at the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame Bar and Grill. Upcoming chapter events include bowling, a Queeny Park picnic, a winery event and the traditional Bearcat football watch parties in December. It was a beautiful September day at Montelle Winery in Augusta when members of the St. Louis Chapter enjoyed wine, music, laughter and an announcement by Heather Herweck- Luckner ’97 and her husband of the arrival of a future Bearcat. The group discussed upcoming gatherings and ideas for reaching out to Northwest alumni in the St. Louis area. Members of the St. Louis Chapter donated their time by picking up recyclables at Busch Stadium and, when not collecting bottles and cans, were able to catch a little bit of the game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers. Chapter members also attended a River City Rascals baseball game and met at Montelle Winery where they enjoyed wine, cheese and crackers and listened to a local band. In December the chapter hosted a watch party for the national championship football game.
In February, the St. Louis Chapter hosted a watch party to cheer on the Bearcat men's basketball team in its game against the University of Central Missouri. The chapter also held a family bowling event, and, in May, celebrated its first anniversary with a social at Ozzie's Sports Bar. Northwest alumni and friends participated in an August happy hour at Fast Eddie's and are planning a holiday social in December.
Members of the St. Louis Chapter met in October at the new Chandler Hills Vineyard for a wine tasting and discussion about grape growing, wine making and the differences between area wineries. The chapter also met at Ozzie's Sport Bar and Grill in December to watch the Bearcat football team compete in the semifinal and national championship games. In addition, the chapter sponsored a holiday social and raised $270 for Little Wishes, a program that grants Christmas wishes for St. Louis children in foster care.
The St. Louis Alumni & Friends Chapter was chartered on May 15, 2008. The charter event was held at Ozzie's Restaurant and Sports Bar. There were over 40 people in attendance for the kickoff event.
